Pneumothorax
A condition where air leaks into the space between the lungs and the chest wall, causing the lung to collapse partially or completely. This can result in sudden chest pain and shortness of breath. Pneumothorax may occur spontaneously without a clear cause, especially in tall, thin individuals or those with underlying lung conditions. It can also result from chest injury, lung disease or medical procedures. Treatment depends on how severe the condition is. Small cases need monitoring, while more serious ones require a chest tube to remove the air & help the lung expand again.
What Causes Pneumothorax:
- Chest Injury
- Lung Diseases
- Ruptured Air Blisters (Blebs)
